How about some Nursery Feng Shui?

You’ve probably heard of feng shui, the Chinese system for arrangement and placement of furniture in a room. It’s often used in businesses and homes as a way to create positive energy in your environment. Even if you’ve never used feng shui in your own space, why not consider it for your baby’s room?
Magic Desert Trees

Feng shui is now making its way into the nursery, and for good reason, too. Feng Shui proposes that by arranging and aligning the room correctly, energy will flow better in the room. Positive energy flow will create an environment to thrive for people of any age, especially a baby.

To maximize the energy in baby's room, there are several important factors to consider, such as room location, safety, colors, and furniture arrangement. Using feng shui in the nursery will help to make babies less fussy, who will feel more comfortable in their surroundings, and who will be healthy and flourish. What does it take to accomplish this? Following some basic considerations will help both baby and parents create a room that makes them both happy.

First of all, put the baby’s room in a good location. A new baby should have a bedroom that is not over a garage or has an empty space below. The bedroom also shouldn't be located where there is excessive noise that might keep the baby from sleeping, such as close to a living room where the TV is on, or close to a noisy street or neighbor.

English Number Cards
The bed should not be against a window or be directly in line with the door. Make sure the baby does not sleep or is placed against a slanted wall. Avoid placing the baby against a wall that is shared with a bathroom, toilet, storage, or utility-type room.

Create good, but soft energy and movement, with mobiles hung close to a window to move gently in the breeze and keep soft music playing in the room.  The baby’s nursery should always be clutter free.  Nothing at all should be underneath the crib.  Few things should line the walls, keep it minimal.  Each night, the dirty diapers should be taken out so a clean, fresh smell circulates.  A small air filter can be placed to ensure clean crisp air 24/7.

Traveling during the Holidays~How To Pack For Your Baby

So you've been at home for a couple of months now, and you're ready to celebrate the holiday with a trip to visit family and friends. What kind of special considerations need to be made in order to make sure that you are prepared for parenthood on the road? Essentially, you want to make sure that you have everything you would need at home, but in a more compact form.
Keep Your Baby Warm!

You want to make sure you have everything you need for feeding the baby, and you have to remember that you may not always have the convenience of a kitchen on hand. If you're breast-feeding, you don't need to worry about feeding supplies too much, since you keep them with you at all time.  However, if you're bottle-feeding, make sure you have everything you need already prepared, just in case. Pack sterilized bottles and nipples in zipper-close plastic bags to keep them clean.

Overestimate on everything. Bring at least as many (cloth or bio-degradable) diapers and wipes as you go through on a daily basis for each day you will be on your trip. Then bring an extra two days in case the baby gets diarrhea, or you unexpectedly take a little bit longer than planned. You also want to make sure that you have changing pads or something similar to keep the area that you use to change your baby, and your baby clean.

If you're not sure about weather, bring a large variety of clothing. Bring a couple of extra outfits (hey, at least they're small), preferably things you can layer or mix and match. Try to pack at least one spare outfit for each day of your trip, especially if you will not have laundry facilities. Remember, babies make messes. Be prepared for the worst.

It is vitally important to pack a small first aid kit, containing pain reliever/fever reducer, Band-Aids, teething medicine, and any other supplies your baby may need. Toys like teething rings should be taken into consideration, as well as baby cold medicine, and basic baby toiletries. Again, bear in mind that you should be preparing for the worst, just in case. You want to be prepared if you're not in a place where medical supplies are on hand.

Make sure you bring a way to comfortably carry the baby, like a baby sling or a front-pack carrier, especially if you're going to be outdoors. Also, a portable playpen with some toys will make the trip much more enjoyable for you and the baby. Packing some small activities for travel, as well as some other things that can be packed away and then brought out once you arrive at your destination is probably the best way to go.

If you are traveling on a plane or bus and plan to check your bags, make sure that any necessary baby supplies are in your carry-on. Not only do you want to make sure that you have everything you need while in transit, but there is always the worst case scenario that bags will be lost. You can go without an extra change of underwear, but baby may not be able to.

Healthy Bedtime Routines for a Happy Child

Bedtime routines and rituals are very important for most children in establishing positive sleep patterns and in developing a sense of security and stability. Your child will benefit from a set bedtime. Choose a time for bed that is reasonable for your child and which you can consistently provide.

Establish a bedtime routine that can provide predictability and a comforting, familiar pattern.  Even an understandable and structured visual pattern can assist this process and can provide reminders and consistency for the whole family.
A good bedtime routine will help teach a child to calm down, relax and get ready to sleep. However, not all technique works for every child. For example, if bathing is stimulating or frightening for your child, it’s probably a better idea to do it at another time of day rather than right before you want your child to calm down and go to sleep.  Include activities that you know have a calming effect on your child into their bedtime preparatory routine. Keep the routine short and sweet.  It should realistically only consist of four to six steps that can be completed in a reasonable time frame, not drawn out into hours on end each night.
Reading a favorite book each night, brushing teeth, having a glass of water, and saying a goodnight prayer can all be calming, soothing activities for a young child to perform each night routinely.  Hugging and kissing family members is usually also an integral part of the process, of course!
There are those nights or times when circumstances prevent your child from getting to bed at their usual time.  Be sure not to shortchange the process when this happens, but keep in mind that each step can be shortened significantly in order to avoid long frustrations at a time when everyone is tired.

Frequently Asked Questions: Caring for Pop&Lolli Decals

Caring for Pop & Lolli Decals

How do you apply Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers?

Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers are ultra easy to install and play with. No instructions needed. No tools necessary. Just peel and stick.

Application is a simple 3-step process of peel, place, and then smooth it with your hand. It can be rearranged and easily removed numerous times. Freshly painted walls should be completely dry before applying the product.

Pop & Lolli requires to wait at least 60 days after painting before you apply our fabric decals to the newly painted wall. Even though the paint will feel dry to the touch soon after it is been painted, it is still wet and will react with the eco-friendly, non-toxic water-based adhesive making the edges of the decals not stick properly.

Drying time depends on the environment, the time of year, the number of layers of paint and the paint brand used.

For the very large and oversized stickers with some complicated shapes, expect to need a helping hand or two, place it on the wall and start from one end to gently smooth the sticker out as you work your way to the other end.

How do you save Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers once you remove it from the wall?

When you’re ready to move or store it for future use, please remember to return it to its original wax-coated backing paper and safely store it in the protective tube it came with. Keeping the adhesive side free of debris and dust when rearranging, or returning it to the original backing paper it arrived on, will help extend the long life of the product.

Are Pop & LolliTM experience-design decals 100% safe for use with children?

Unlike common regular vinyl decals, Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers does not contain any of the PVCs used in the manufacturing of vinyl and it maintains a very eco-friendly water based adhesive.

Unlike the common regular vinyl decals, Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers utilizes the new Eco-Sol Max inks, which are solvent inks that provide durability and UV resistance, but do not contain the harsh chemicals used in mild and full solvent printing.

What are Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers made of?

Unlike common regular vinyl decals, Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers are made from an ultra premium, very re-usable, finely woven polyester fabric.

Unlike the common regular vinyl decals, Pop & LolliTM experience-design decals will not shrink, curl, peel, rip easily*, stretch, wrinkle, crack, harden or leave a residue over time. *It is noted that certain areas are compromised in its strength due to the shape, this results in weaker corners.

Unlike the common regular vinyl decals, Pop & LolliTM experience-design decals will easily pull free, if it turns in and sticks to itself.

Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers arrived with dents, creases and or folds. Is this a defective item?

Please note: Because Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers are made from an ultra premium polyester fabric, it is reasonable to expect to receive it with some dents and or perhaps some creases caused during packaging and shipping. But rest assured, due to the superior quality of the material and inherent nature of the fabric, all creases and dents are only temporary. It will be completely gone and not at all noticeable once in position, placed and smoothed on the wall.

Upon arrival, Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers does not seem to stick to the backing paper it came with, almost like it has no stickiness on the backside. Is this a defective item?

Due to the nature of the material of the product with the water-based adhesive, can it also be expected to seem a little "loose" and not sticking well on the wax-coated backing paper it arrives on. Rest assured - this is normal! It is designed and intended to be that way, and once you place it on your wall you will be very pleasantly surprised to see how well and easy it sticks to the wall and removes and sticks to the wall and removes and sticks to the wall.

How long will Pop & LolliTM chic fabric stickers stay up on a wall?

Unlike the common regular vinyl decals, Pop & LolliTM experience-design decals have a semi-gloss UV protective coating which provides a lifespan of 7-10 years indoors and 5-7 years outdoors, provided good care, appropriate environments and handling was administered.

Unlike the common regular vinyl decals, Pop & LolliTM chic fabric wall stickers are much more re-usable friendly for many many many many many many … times, depending on the conditions of the surface and the environment. Please just remember that it is still a sticker. Ensure your environment and surfaces are always free of dust, otherwise it may loose tackiness over time.
Will Pop & LolliTM chic fabric stickers stick to any wall?

Eco-Conscious Thanksgiving Dinner – What to Look Out For

If you want to be conscious of the environment this Thanksgiving, there are some things to look out for. Here are some tips.

Picture is courtesy of Tina Philips

1. Look out for mass-farmed turkeys. Just because a label says the turkey is "all natural" or has "no artificial hormones," it doesn't mean the turkey was not produced on a factory farm. So research the major brands of turkey and find one whose farming practices you're comfortable with before making your purchase.

2. Organic, free-range turkeys are an eco-conscious option. Remember, read the label and don't hesitate to contact the farmer or company that produced the turkey. The phrase "pasture-raised" or "pastured" means the turkey was raised on pastureland, which is an eco-friendly option. The best choice would be a turkey from a small, local farm.

3. Consider a meatless Thanksgiving. There are tofu "roasts" that you can slice and serve to your family, or simply make a vegetarian meal. To take up the space normally occupied by the turkey, make pumpkin soup and serve it inside a big pumpkin shell. Or make a colorful pasta or a vegetarian loaf of grains and beans.

4. Eat seasonal, local foods that are organic. What foods are in season will depend somewhat on your area. Foods generally in season in late November include:

* Cranberries
* Pumpkins
* Sweet potatoes
* Turnips
* Nuts
* Squash (winter squash such as butternut or acorn)
* Apples

5. Use alternatives to decorate your dinner table, such as cloth table covers verses plastic or vinyl covers . You can make them yourself, or buy them from antique or second-hand stores.

6. Dispose of the disposables at the table. Use reusable flatware, tablecloths, and cups.

7. Stay away from plastic decorations. It's so easy to collect all kinds of plastic or mass-produced decorations for your house, but it's not very eco-conscious. Make your own decorations from eco-friendly materials. Using items from nature (pinecones, acorns, berries, etc.) or recyclable materials from your own home are eco-friendly options.

8. Pay attention to the thermostat. Keep it around 72 degrees. Build a fire if possible to create a wonderful atmosphere and keep warm.
9. Serve some raw foods to conserve energy. You can go beyond just a cold veggie tray. There are lots of interesting raw food dishes, from pasta to dessert.

10. Stay home if possible, and celebrate Thanksgiving without excessive travel. If you do travel, make sure your tires are inflated properly. If you need to fly, try purchasing carbon offsets.

Simple Easy Ways to Become an Eco-Friendly Parent on a Budget

Today's economic times we are looking for bargains and ways to save, but at the same time be green and healthy. When you decide to make a change for your family toward a more eco-friendly lifestyle, you may set out on your first eco-friendly shopping trip at your local health food store. And then you see the prices. And then you may question your decision! But don't worry - there are ways to be an eco-friendly parent without breaking the bank. Here are some tips.

1. Shop Locally- Food

Not to disparage the health food store, but it is often not the cheapest source of healthy food. Head to your local farmer's market and buy fresh produce. Because the food is from local farms, you won't be paying for long transport or sprayed-on preservatives.

2. Grow a Garden- Your Own Food

You can save money and teach your children about nature's provision by growing your own food. Raised beds, vegetable planting boxes, and containers make it possible for just about everyone to grow some of their own food. Tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, and squash are good vegetables to begin with, as they grow easily. Blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries are good fruits for beginners.

3. Preserve the Harvest

Learn to can and/or freeze the extra produce from summer's bounty, when the produce is so much less expensive. You can use the same containers year after year, and you won't have to buy canned and frozen fruits and vegetables in the winter.

4. Breastfeed Your Baby

This single thing reduces waste and saves a tremendous amount of money. And if you breastfeed exclusively or "ecologically," you will not have to buy bottles, pacifiers, tins of formula, and so forth. Bottles and pacifiers are plastic or rubber and rarely recycled. And formula alone is very expensive.

The longer your breastfeed, the more you'll save. And it's better for your baby! Check your local library or internet search engine for tips on ecological breastfeeding.

5. Cloth Diapers

Okay, so many of us don't want to go back to the "bad old days" when mothers had to deal with cloth diapers. But one of the most eco-friendly choices you can make as a parent is to use cloth diapers. Disposable diapers are filling landfills at a rapid rate. Backed with plastic and saturated with chemicals like bleach and absorbance-enhancing substances, disposable diapers do not biodegrade completely.

These days, there are many choices for parents who want to use cloth diapers. They can be washed and reused over and over, and a diaper cover made from water-resistant wool can help prevent leaks.

6. Green Cleaning

Before cleaning house as an eco-friendly parent, you may have to - well - clean house! Go through your cabinets and get rid of all the chemical-based cleaners like scouring powders, spray-on cleaners, germ-killing sprays, etc. Replace them with simple, cheap, home-made cleaning products that are non-toxic.

White vinegar and baking soda can be used variously for an enormous number of cleaning jobs. Vinegar and water can be used to mop wood floors, wipe counters, and wash windows. Use baking soda to remove baked-on "gunk" in your conventional or microwave oven.

7. Teach Your Children

A very important aspect of being eco-friendly is teaching the next generation about the importance of preserving the environment. Include your kids in your eco-friendly decisions and projects. Check out books at the library and explore relevant websites.

Developing a love of nature and the environment in your children doesn't need to cost anything but a little time and effort on your part. And the harvest from that effort will be significant for the future of the planet.

Keep your family safe and clean with this Non-toxic Multi-Purpose Cleaner recipe

If you accidently spilled something on your counter or floor, you probably have some sort of "all-purpose cleaner" that you reach for, and it's most likely in a spray bottle. But some of those chemical-laden cleaners are questionable at best and dangerous at worst - their labels are festooned with warnings about accidental ingestion, inhalation of fumes, eye contact, skin contact, etc.

However, you can recycle the empty containers of these cleaners to hold your own home-made, non-toxic cleaners. Just make sure that you dispose of the contents responsibly (contact your local EPA or solid waste authority) and wash out the bottle thoroughly if you choose to re-use.

Here are three recipes for all-purpose, non-toxic cleaners for your home. Two of them are sprays and the other is a creamy scrubber. While they are non-toxic as far as cleaners go, it's not a good idea to ingest them or let your toddler get into them unsupervised (after all, these recipes smell yummy!). But these cleaners are safe enough for your children to help you clean with your supervision.

Lemon or Peppermint Creamy Scrub

In a 1-quart container (you can reuse an empty mayonnaise jar or plastic yogurt container), mix:
* 1 cup baking soda
* 1/4 cup borax laundry booster
* 1 tablespoon liquid, biodegradable soap
* 5-10 drops lemon or peppermint essential oil

Add water and stir until you achieve a thick consistency that can still be poured, like a thick milkshake. The thicker the consistency, the more potent the cleaning power. Use this scrub to clean your bathroom and kitchen sinks, bathtub, faucets, and anywhere you would use conventional soft scrubbers.

All-Purpose, Germ-Killing Spray

In a 1-quart spray bottle, mix:
* 1/2 cup of white vinegar
* 3 cups of water
* 10 drops of grapefruit seed extract or tea tree oil
* 1 teaspoon of biodegradable liquid soap
* 10-20 drops of lavender or lemon essential oil

Shake this spray well and use it on sinks, countertops, floors, or any smooth surface and wipe with a cloth. For tough stains on a hard surface or baked-on mess (such as in an oven or microwave), sprinkle baking soda over the stain or gunk and spray with the above spray until the baking soda is thoroughly dampened. Let it sit for 15-25 minutes, then wipe with a cloth. The stain may require some elbow grease, but the crusty stuff should come right off. You can even use this spray on windows.

Oil Soap Spray

In a 1-quart spray bottle, pour:
* 1 tablespoon of oil soap (found in the cleaning aisle of your local store)
* 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil

Fill the bottle with water. Shake well and use on floors (wood, vinyl or linoleum), cabinets, stoves, etc.

Now you can consider your home truly, naturally clean - not toxically clean!

Baltic Amber Teething Necklace-Handmade Jewelry for Babies

We have a great solution to help babies’ sore gums while they are teething. We are now carrying Baltic Amber Teething Necklace.

Baltic Amber has been used in Europe and Asia for centuries because of their very unique and special healing properties. Here is a little history of this amazing stone from our very own Babawear and writes:

Baltic Amber teething necklace is made of natural amber nuggets, to be worn by a teething baby.

Baltic Amber has been used for thousands of years all across Europe and Asia to help calm and alleviate the pain of teething babies for thousands of years. Baltic amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs

This is unique and one of a kind handmade jewelry handcrafted with only the finest quality raw amber materials. There is a knot between each bead so if the necklace breaks beads will not fall off. Do not get soaps or lotions on the necklace as it will lose its properties.

Healing Powers of Breast Milk

Breast milk is extremely amazing stuff. It can't be replicated in formulas, and it has components whose relevance modern science has still not figured out. You may have heard that breast milk is healthy for your baby, but did you know it could also be a natural healer?

Breast milk has antibacterial properties. Thus, it can be applied to various types of topical and even internal infections. Here are some things to think about regarding the healing power of breast milk.

1) Eye or eyelid infections in baby, child or adult can be cleared up with breast milk. A few drops in each eye several times a day will fight the infection.

2) Ear infections have been effectively treated with breast milk. Treat the breast milk like an antibiotic eardrop (which it is!) - a few drops in each ear several times a day.

3) Breast milk offers antibodies to boost baby's immunity every time he or she nurses. Sick babies often need to nurse more, so be sure to follow your baby's cues and give his or her immune system what it needs.

4) The suckling action of breastfeeding helps develop the muscles in the face and jaw, encouraging correct alignment and strength. Bottle-feeding does not produce the same results.

5) Minor cuts and scrapes can be soothed with breast milk, and its antibacterial properties help with healing. Rub a drop or two into a cut or scrape and allow to air-dry before putting on a band aid or other cover.

6) Diaper rash can be treated with breast milk as well. Rub some of it gently into the area of the rash and let it dry before re-diapering.

7)  Breastfed babies are less likely to develop childhood leukemia.

8) Incidents of heart disease and high blood pressure are lower among adults who were breastfed as babies.

9) Help clear up acne-prone areas by rubbing breast milk on the skin. Eczema can benefit from topical applications of breast milk as well. Plus breast milk softens and moistens skin. Some even claim that it works as a make-up remover!

10)  It is worth noting that women who breastfeed their babies are less likely to develop breast cancer. The longer you nurse, the better the protection. It is more a result of the hormonal effects of nursing than breast milk itself.

11)  Donated breast milk has been used to successfully treat a host of infant disorders, such as failure to thrive, kidney failure, metabolic problems, and diarrhea. Immune system diseases such as severe allergies have been treated with breast milk ingestion as well.

12 ) Chronic adult disorders of the intestine, such as ulcerative colitis, have responded positively to breast milk.

No cow's milk or formula can do all of these things!
